Sharing our
Success Story

The Great Read-Along is a collective movement to support
young people who learn differently.

On October 22, 2026, let’s come together to reach
6,000,000 minutes of shared reading across Canada.

Wakefield Brewster, professional poet, spoken word artist, and literacy advocate, ambassador of The Great Read-Along.

What’s The Great Read-Along?

In Canada, nearly one in five students has a learning disability. This lifelong challenge impacts every aspect of their life and their families. Their future is our future. That’s why it is urgent to engage the public around a national movement to support these individuals and break down barriers to their success.

The joy of reading is a powerful driver of educational success. Research tells us that fostering a love of reading from an early age helps to mitigate the impact of learning challenges.

The Challenge

On October 22, 2026, let’s all read across Canada. Together, let’s reach 6,000,000 minutes of shared reading!

What it's all about?

The Great Read-Along is a simple, accessible, collective challenge: spend a few minutes reading, in a group or with your family, to support young people facing learning challenges.

When you register, you choose a reading duration (15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes) and contribute to a shared goal: reaching 6,000,000 minutes of shared reading.

Read what you love: novels, comic books, audiobooks or children’s picture books. The important thing is to read together, and enjoy it.

Every minute of reading supports a movement bigger than yourself: a tangible action to encourage the educational success of young people who learn differently.

Each registration adds minutes to the collective counter, which is updated daily.

FAQs

Who can participate?

Everyone! The challenge is designed to be experienced in a group (in class, as a family, among co-workers or with friends), but you’re welcome to participate on your own. What matters most is simply wanting to share a moment of reading.

Can I register my entire school?

It’s not possible to register a whole school through a single sign-up. Each teacher must register their own class. We believe that the commitment to take part in The Great Read-Along should come from those who plan and lead the activity with their students. If you’d like a promotional kit to help spread the initiative in your school, please contact us.

Do we have to read exactly on October 22?

Yes, the challenge takes place on October 22, 2026, since the goal is to create a large, collective reading movement across Canada. The date is set, but you can choose the duration, timing and format that work best for you. When you register, you’ll also have the option to add the event to your calendar so you don’t forget!

Is it free?

100%! Registration, activity kits, live events for classes and families . . . everything is available free of charge. You can also make a donation to support the mission of the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada.

What's included in the activity kits?

Each kit includes simple, fun and accessible ideas for experiencing The Great Read-Along your way: reading-for-pleasure activities, book suggestions, an invitation to a live event for classes, and more. Four versions are available: elementary school, secondary school, family and adult. Access to the kits will be sent to you by email after you register.

What do you do with registration data?

The information collected during registration (name, email, number of participants, reading duration, etc.) is used solely to update the collective counter and to send you the activity kit. No personal data is shared or used for any other purpose. We respect the privacy of all participants, in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.
